At the base of JPMorganChase’s new global headquarters at 270 Park Avenue, a remarkably small café is helping create a generous new public experience in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
Developed in partnership with Foster + Partners and Grace Farms—the SANAA-designed cultural and humanitarian center in New Canaan, Connecticut—the café occupies just 120 square feet at the corner of 48th Street and Madison Avenue. It sits beside A Parallel Nature, Maya Lin’s living artwork, and serves the public Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Clad in bronze, the café appears as a simple, modern cube. A single garage-style door opens the entire space to the plaza, transforming the compact structure into an inviting coffee and tea bar. Within its exceptionally small footprint, every inch has been thoughtfully considered to balance operational efficiency, hospitality, and architectural design. The cafe offers publicly available seating and tables.
The café brings a moment of calm to one of Manhattan’s busiest corners. A watercolor topographic mural of Grace Farms connects the space to its inspiration in Connecticut, while the menu features Grace Farms’ signature organic teas and coffees sourced from women-led cooperatives. More than a compact café, it is a small but meaningful expression of hospitality, purpose, and thoughtful design.
