Welcome to Second State

Our first coffee shop opened in February 2012 in Charleston’s historic Harleston Village neighborhood. This serene space has custom-built tables made from heart pine wood used in the construction of Charleston’s oldest buildings, a stand-up bar with wrought iron stools, and a few black-and-white family photographs. Expect to find our own locally roasted specialty coffee, local dairy milk, expertly brewed single origin pour overs from amazing coffee producers, loose-leaf Rishi tea, 2 types of matcha, a killer proprietary cold brew that will have you rethinking this beverage, top-tier homemade syrups and pastries, and seasonal specialty drinks.

Our roastery is located just a short drive away in North Charleston, SC. We roast each bean to bring out its best qualities and to highlight as much producer work, origin, and inherent flavor as possible. The majority of our coffees are developed on the “light to medium” spectrum.  Not sure what to get? Coffees are arranged on our shop shelves from most traditional chocolatey, nutty to most modern, fruity, and wild. For a deeper experience, each coffee has its own Spotify playlist pairing that you can find on our website.
